Can the teachers stay out of this thread please.
9.30-3.30 Monday to Friday and extended holidays every month or two isn't a real job.

I was thinking about this the other day actually. I'm only in my 20's but how the fuck do people commute to london every working day for 40 odd years?
no wonder the vast majority are boring and miserable people in the city

18 months at the same job is a decent period of time in my profession.
I could walk into a job tomorrow for more bunce/seniority but actually quite like my job.

Dicksie,
Go contracting if you don't like staying somewhere very long. Pay is usually good and when you get bored get another contract

I think I'm up to 30 days leave now?
Kind of irrelevant though as nobody really keeps tabs on it.

Sign of the times I'm afraid Ted, I do contract work, run a kids footy team and from time to time help out at my daughters school so I end up having 3 or 4 CRBs a year. It's no hassle to me all I have to do is give them my permission to proceed with the check.
I'm also aware of companies that do regular checks on existing employees, just in case they've been naughty and not told anyone.
I hope that they overlook your caution for riding your motobility scooter along the Frinton sea front......

If I hadn't moved out of London in the 80's I would like to think I would have still been working in the same company I had been working for for about 16 years there

Penners has "hit the nail on its head" I stayed with one company for exactly that reason. Once they withdrew the final salary pension I moved to a new firm for more money though this has a money purchase pension scheme. When I retire I should have reasonable pension pot as my FSPS is index linked and I have about 30 years contributions in it. However I really enjoy my current job and wished I had moved years earlier as I have a reasonable disposable income now.

Been working since 1990 and only started my 3rd job last year. First 2 were both redundancies.
I don't go to work to enjoy myself so don't really give a fuck where I work so long as the people aren't massive cunts.
Currently work with a girl who wears mini shirts every single day of the year, so could be worse.

I've been with my company for 13 years.
I could earn a lot more money elsewhere, but a bit hesitant to make the move.
I'm starting to think I may have to though.
Loyalty goes a long way though.
